- I recently purchased a new system from Gateway 2000 which included their
- Telepath 28.8 fax modem. Whenever I try to use compression on a
- connection, the modem works for anywhere between 2 and 5 minutes, and
- then goes into handshaking la-la land for about 75 seconds. Then it
- resumes (finally echoing any characters that I've typed ahead), until
- about 2 to 5 minutes later, when the whole thing happens again.
-
- If I turn off compression, this behavior vanishes.
-
- I've only access to one phone line here at home, but this same line has
- given me no problems with my previous modem, an Intel 14.4.
-
- Am I missing something here, or are these modems just very susceptable
- to line noise?
-
-
- Any help would be greatly appreciated,
-
